Uluwatu is the wave that put Bali on the global surf map. This world-class left-hand reef break wraps along the base of towering limestone cliffs on the Bukit Peninsula's western tip.
The Uluwatu complex features multiple sections - The Peak, Racetrack, Outside Corner, and Temples - that on the right swell connect into rides of 200m+. The wave breaks over shallow coral reef, producing long, walling lefts with barrel sections. Swells in the 4-8ft range offer the best conditions, with the wave handling up to 12ft+ before becoming unmanageable.
Prime season runs April through October when consistent SW groundswells meet SE offshore trade winds. Mid to high tide is safest and most surfable. At low tide the reef becomes dangerously shallow. Dawn patrol sessions offer the lightest crowds and cleanest conditions.
Enter through the famous cave at Suluban Beach. The narrow cave passage floods at high tide, so time your entry. The cliff-top path from the temple area offers views of the lineup to check conditions before committing.
